Classic Guacamole

Classic Guacamole

Guacamole is perhaps one of the simplest, most perfect food creations of them all. Avocados? yes… Limes? yes… Salt? yes… Garlic? yessssss. Of course not all guacamole is created equal though. The one major deal breaker is that any guac that’s really worth its salt is homemade. Fortunate enough, guacamole is incredibly easy to make. If you’ve never tasted homemade guacamole before, I’m giving you fair warning that you will be raising the bar so high that store bought guac will henceforth taste like watered down avocado. With the one exception of Whole Foods where they make their guacamole site on scene, it is practically a sin to buy guacamole at the store when it is so easy -and considerably more delicious- to make at home. Ahi Tuesday

Ahi Tuesday

Food has always been a joyful part of my life. Some of my most vivid memories from growing up are moments at the family dinner table, gliding on the front porch swing enjoying pastries and coffee with my parents, and of course all of the holiday gatherings with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Food nourishes and brings us together. Of course, when you’re a kid your only responsibility is showing up to tuck in. And then before you know it the days of wondering what mom is cooking for dinner and when it will be ready are long gone and you’re spending Sunday afternoons meal planning and ordering groceries online. But I would be lying if I said I don’t totally love it. Read More

Pamper & Chill

Pamper & Chill

While a mother’s work never is really done, I am technically on-duty with my twin toddlers from 7 AM-7 PM (yes, on the weekends too.) Of course we are talking about two toddlers under the same roof, so you can imagine the extent of overtime put in, but for the most part the time between the boys’ bedtime and my own is essentially sacred. Some days are definitely harder than others, but either way it’s always a long day, and come 7 o’clock I am in dire need of some major R&R.

As a mom your daily life is very scheduled and repetitive, but the plus side to this dynamic is that it’s easier to structure time into your day to unwind and reboot. Evenings are exclusively reserved for hanging out with the Mister and getting in my me time right before bed. Having a calming and rejuvenating night time routine is essential for taking care of your body and preparing yourself to wake up feeling fresh and ready to take on the day. Because everyone deserves a good nights rest, I’ve partnered with Crane & Canopy to show you the steps I take each evening to pamper, rest, and relax this season. Read More

The Big Bangs Theory

The Big Bangs Theory

Last year I caught the bangs bug and within two weeks I had a freshly cut fringe across my very narrow forehead. I hardly every get sudden urges to make drastic changes to my hair, but after about three years of the standard “just a trim, I’m trying to grow it out” request at the hair salon, I felt a need to change up my look a bit. And change it up they certainly did! It always takes a couple of days for me to settle into a new haircut, but with the bangs it took a good two weeks for me to recognize myself in the mirror again, and when I did I felt like a slightly new, more face framed me.  I’m extremely low maintenance about my hair and highly regard the ability to pull my hair up into a pony tail and have everything out of my face. Obviously with bangs this required a few extra bobby pins and headbands, so within a couple of months I knew the bangs wouldn’t be a permanent change for me and decided to let them grow out. Even though I won’t be a perma-fringe girl, I’m so glad that I took the risk with getting bangs and have been pleasantly surprised during the growing out process.  Read More

Winter Skincare On the Double

Winter Skincare On the Double

My philosophy on makeup and beauty in general has always been less is more. I’d like to pretend that’s only because I don’t like the feeling of heavy make up on my skin, but it may also have to do with the fact that I’m hopeless at applying makeup. A few years ago I took an online quiz to test my knowledge and overall know how on make up and my results were basically “You are such an idiot about make up that you shouldn’t even be allowed to buy it.” Undeterred, I’ve dabbled in experimenting with an assortment of products and techniques that go for the no-make up look (and feel,) but ultimately have come to the conclusion that the best formula for good make up and a fresh face is a stellar skin routine. If your skin is out of sorts whatever make up you try applying on top just won’t look good. And of course, once you finally assemble your perfect skincare routine, the seasons change and you’re back at square one. Recently finding myself in this predicament, I’m sharing my winter skincare essentials that have rejuvinated and brightened the desert that was my face. Read More
