Wardrobe Hero: The Perfect Jean

Wardrobe Hero: The Perfect Jean

A secret weapon in any woman’s closet, a perfect pair of jeans faithfully embodies comfort and sensuality all at once. Dressed down with a tee shirt and flats or with a silk blouse and heels for a night out, if there’s one thing a girl can rely on it’s her jeans. Jeans come in all shapes and sizes, but I believe the one style in particular that earns a spot as a true wardrobe hero is the high rise straight fit jean. It’s simple, flattering, and timeless. If you have saved searches for the likes of Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy (guilty, guilty, guilty) or follow modern street style stars on social media (seriously guilty) there’s little to no doubt vintage Levi’s frequent your feeds. More often than not after a few clicks you discover the vintage threads- most likely the label’s illustrious 501 style- were snatched up from Ebay, ReDone, Reformation, or Urban Outfitters. The 501 is a universally flattering and versatile style that the best of the best style icons all seem to have in common.  Read More

Wearing it Now: Marigold and Pink

Wearing it Now: Marigold and Pink

Every year in August when it’s practically too hot and humid to go outside I long for cold winter nights, snow days, and layers upon layers of chunky knits, wool coats, and tall boots, but come February my wind burnt cheeks, chapped lips, and freezing toes have just about had enough. I actually do really enjoy piling on the layers and getting bundled up to go outside, but thoughts of idyllic balmy spring weather (and being able to go outside without freezing my bum off) make me eager for warmer days.

Living in DC you quickly learn how to dress for in-between weather because the transition between seasons in the District is wildly unpredictable. The turnover from winter to spring is particularly fickle, putting the city in a state of limbo going back and forth between warm and cold days until the buds are blooming and spring finally sets in. It’s easy to get caught up in spring fever and all the florals tromping up and down the runway, but whether you like it or not you may very well be holed up under all of your layers for a few more weeks (at the very least.) On the upside, taking a spring attitude to your winter wardrobe by way of creative color combinations is all you need to hit refresh on your winter favorites.   Read More

His and Hers

His and Hers

His and hers not in the cutesy and traditional sense, but more in a what’s yours is mine sort of way. As the youngest sibling of three wandering into other people’s closets comes quite naturally to me. Not quite an enduring quality, but an inherent tendency none the less. Now that I’m (technically) grown up and my mother and sister’s closets are about an hour drive away, my eyes have occasionally wandered over to the Mister’s closet. Fortunate for me, he is a very dapper and obliging man. Fortunate for him, my 5′ 6″ frame swims in most of his 6′ 3″ muscular build clothing, so my options are limited.

Near the end of my twin pregnancy I was practically living in his henley shirts, but it wasn’t until a couple of months ago when he put this classic navy rollneck sweater (that I’ve always loved) into our goodwill pile that I decided I had to give it a go. Sure enough, this tad too short for him sweater was just the right tunic-esque length for me. I’ve always liked the idea of tunics but had never found one with the right relaxed fit and flattering length. With my tunic query finally answered, the Mister’s closet suddenly had much bigger borrowing potential 🙂  Read More

Wearing it Now: Necessary Neutrals

Wearing it Now: Necessary Neutrals

As the temperatures are quickly dropping and the last bits of fall are fading fast it’s time to pile on the layers. I dress in monochrome a lot sticking to one main color scheme, however one of my favorite and coziest ways to layer is different textures in an assortment of neutrals. On a cold, windy day these necessary neutrals mean hats, scarves, knits, coats, and boots in camel wool and canvas, taupe suedes, corduroys, vibrant plaids, and denim. Read More

Wearing it Now: Neutral Layering for Fall

Wearing it Now: Neutral Layering for Fall

Now that fall weather has finally come to Washington, I’ve started switching out my spring/summer and fall/winter wardrobes. Seeing as we’re still having stray 70 degree days here and there the name of the game for me is tee shirts and layering. The Mister just got back from a work trip to Texas and as always came bearing gifts including this souvenir from Austin, the live music capitol of world. Knowing my affinity for a good tourist tee, this Willie Nelson gem is a fun new addition to my fleet of tee’s. Read More
